About Wilton Test Centre
Wilton is Cork's busiest test centre, tucked into the Doughcloyne Industrial Estate off Sarsfield Road. It handles most of the city's tests. Routes head through Bishopstown, along the Curraheen Road, and loop back past the Wilton roundabout. Traffic is heavy here, especially during school runs and the morning commute on the South Ring Road.

Tricky spots at Wilton
Wilton sits on Cork's western edge, between the South Ring Road and the university. The test area covers a mix of residential streets, commercial zones, and dual carriageways. Traffic density varies sharply by time of day.
Two-lane roundabout with high traffic. Lane selection is tested heavily. Get into the correct lane before the roundabout, not on it.
Pedestrian crossing right after the lights. Learners forget to check for pedestrians already on the crossing when the light turns green.
Drops from 60km/h to 50km/h with no warning signs that learners notice. Examiners watch for this.
Turning right across oncoming traffic. Visibility is blocked by parked delivery vans. Wait for a clear gap.
School zone during mornings. 30km/h limit. Children crossing. Multiple hazards at once.
Students on bikes and scooters. Check mirrors before every lane change here.
Tips for passing at Wilton
Book your test for mid-morning (10:30am to 12pm) to avoid school run traffic around Bishopstown.
Practice the Wilton roundabout in both directions. Examiners vary the approach.
Know the bus lanes on Wilton Road. You can use them outside restricted hours, but check the signs.
The Sarsfield Road exit from the industrial estate has poor visibility. Creep forward slowly and check both ways.
Bring water and a snack. Waiting times at Wilton can run 20 to 30 minutes past your appointment.
If it is raining, the Curraheen Road surface gets slippery near the roundabout. Slow down early.
