Tricky spots at Mallow
Mallow is a busy market town on the Blackwater river in North Cork. It sits at the junction of the N20 and N72, making it a crossroads for traffic heading between Cork, Limerick, and East Cork.
The direction changes at different points. Learners sometimes enter against traffic. Follow the signs carefully.
Trucks from the motorway move fast. Do not hesitate once you commit to entering. Match their speed.
Three crossings within 200 metres. Shoppers step out without warning. Watch for movement between parked cars.
Steep gradient near the council offices. If the examiner asks for a hill start here, use the handbrake.
Yield sign is hidden by overgrowth in summer. Know it is there before you arrive.
Tips for passing at Mallow
Mallow town is compact. Familiarise yourself with the one-way system before test day.
The N20 approach is the fastest road on the test. Practice accelerating to 80km/h and maintaining speed.
Market days (Tuesday and Saturday) bring extra traffic and pedestrians. Avoid these if possible.
The council car park fills early. Arrive with time to spare and be ready to park further back.
If your route goes past the train station, watch for the level crossing barriers. They can cause a long delay.
Mallow has the longest wait times in Cork. Book your test early and practice while waiting.
